By refusing to bow down to the king’s golden idol, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego went directly against authority, against what others thought they were supposed to do, in favor of what God directly told them to do. Following what they knew was right, they were thrown into the fiery furnace, so hot that the people outside immediately burned up and died. But they did not burn. They were not alone. The three men came out unscathed, and the Lord’s protection of them stunned the king so much, that he commanded everyone to worship the one who protected these men, even into the depths of a burning furnace.
