Mission and outreach are at the core of what we believe the Christian life is all about. John Wesley admonished those who called themselves Methodist to “Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can.” See how you can be challenged to live as a disciples of Christ by serving our neighbors below!
Lunch With Our Neighbors
is a weekly ministry that was started in January 2010. Each week, volunteers from FUMC Killeen and the community prepare and serve a free hot meal and a sack lunch to those who are in need. The meals are served every Thursday between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. at The Moss Rose Community Center in the Killeen Housing Authority. Most of our guests have a limited income; some may be homeless. God’s love is shared as volunteers serve the meal and visit with guests. Afterward, everyone is invited to share in “Hope and Salvation,” the name given to the devotional service held to provide prayer, music, praise and worship for those who wish to attend. Facilitator: Darrel Charlton dcharlton@hot.rr.com
JOY Ministry
A ministry of presence. When a church member has surgery or is in the hospital, the Joy team will visit with the family during surgery if possible or present a “joy bag” of food for the soul. Sending cards is also a big part of this ministry. Dr. Andy Fowler is chair of this ministry andina1960@embarqmail.com
Prayer Shawl Ministry and Threads of Love
Is about hearing God call you to use your God given talent to create a shawl to be given to someone in need or celebrating a special occasion. Meets the second Tuesday of the month at 10:45 am in the New Dimension Sunday School Room. Facilitator is Elaine Passman stpassm2@aol.com
United Methodist Men
meet in the Fellowship Hall of the church at 7:30 a.m. the 2nd Saturday of every month. We typically have breakfast and a program. Our overall focus, as we see it, is taken from the General Conference United Methodist Men “…to help others grow to a mature faith in God that moves them to action on behalf of others, especially ‘the least.’” This aspect of “disciple making” is the ultimate goal of all that we do in the church. As a group, we focus on fun, fellowship and faith in our meetings. Our projects and our services are needed throughout the church. President is David Hall david.hall@bovislendlease.com
United Methodist Women
is one of the most dynamic aspects of a United Methodist Church. The UMW has always led from the front line when it comes to the mission of the church. At FUMC Killeen, we currently have three circles, but have plans to create more in the near future. We have three circles Mary Ruth, Abigail and Anna.
