Are You New To The Area?

It is difficult to move to a new community, make friends, explore, and find your way around the community.  When it comes to finding a new church home, the choices are somewhat endless in an area that is home to over 250 places of worship!

So many questions come to mind when choosing a church.  What are their services like?  Are the people friendly?  Are there activities for my spouse, my kids, and myself?  For those who are in the military, additional questions need answering.  Will the church I choose be supportive of my family when my loved one is deployed?   Will they support me and my family even though we might move to a new duty station in 4 years?

We at First United Methodist Church, Killeen, with great certainty, believe we can answer  YES  to all those questions and more.  We are a Christ-centered church, full of warm, caring and compassionate people.  We care about you, your family, our community and our God.  And for the military families, our church is full of retired and active duty military, from all branches, and we have a deep compassion and understanding of those who serve.

Below is a sampling of what we offer at FUMC, Killeen.  We invite you to come see us.  We are confident you won’t be disappointed.  We look forward to meeting you soon!

Looking forward to serving the Kingdom with you,

Rev. David McMinn
Associate Pastor
First United Methodist Church, Killeen

Worship

We have three worship options from which to choose on Sunday mornings. We encourage you to come as you are and worship our Lord in the way you are most comfortable! Our first service is at 7:45 a.m.  It is traditional and small, resembling that of a close-knit family.   The second service is at 9:30 a.m.   Here we bring out the guitars, drums and lift up our voices to praise God in a contemporary worship environment.  Our last service is at 11:00 a.m. and is our most traditional.  Here we are drawn into the presence of God by classic hymns, powerful choral music and a warm and inviting atmosphere.   Click on our Worship Services page for more details!

Children

At FUMC Killeen, our focus starts with the children because they are most dear to God and to our congregation.  We have an outstanding children’s ministry led by our Director of Children’s Ministry, Debra Longley.  Children are always welcome in worship.  Debra leads a dynamic children’s sermon during the 8:45 a.m. and 11 a.m., where your children will know they are beloved by God.  Several Sunday school classes are offered for the kids at 9:30 am and 11:00 am.  A nursery is provided for the little ones.  Click on our Children‘s page for more information about our programs and services for the kids.

Youth

Our Youth Ministry welcomes individuals between 6th and 12th grade.  At FUMC, our Youth has multiple opportunities to be an integral part of a great youth ministry.  We don’t view our youth as the future, but rather, the “now” of the church.  Youth are involved in all aspects of our church and we hope to prepare them to be fully devoted disciples of Christ.  Our Director of Youth Ministries, Jodi Marfell, is teaching the youth about loving God, each other, and reaching out to others.  To find out more, go to the Youth page.

Adults

For those over 18, we have multiple opportunities from which to choose.  Our United Methodist Men and United Methodist Women groups meet once a month for fellowship, service and to grow closer to God.  We have opportunities for young adults to express themselves in community in both social and discipleship groups.  If you are in the military, we have a group called Military Connections designed to give you support and the ability to gather with those who are sharing the same life experiences.  There are exciting ways to express yourself artistically, from our music ministry to our passion play performances! In short, we want you to see us as an extension of your home and your family. Click on our Adult page for more information.

Disciples of Christ

Most of all, we are also here to challenge you to be a disciple of Christ.  That means participating in the transformation of the world through serving and loving others.  Christianity is not an inward, selfish faith.  It is an outward, communal faith that challenges us to see the world’s needs and attempt to meet them.  At FUMC, Killeen, there are many ways to serve.  You can be a Stephen Minister and reach out to a person who is hurting.  You can assist with Lunch with our Neighbors where we provide a weekly meal to those who might not be able to afford it otherwise.  We have a group who builds wheel chair ramps, once a month, helping those with disabilities to become more independent.  Maybe you are called to serve as a mentor for teenagers or children, or you have a passion for teaching adults about the love of God.  These are just a few of the ways you can serve and perhaps you have a great idea for ministry as well.  We are always open to finding new ways of helping people through our Christ-centered church.
